Bethel Staff
Wendy grew up in Mobile, Alabama where she was active in the Presbyterian Church (USA). She graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA and then went on to serve as Young Adult Volunteer in Mission with the PCUSA. Wendy served in Belfast, Northern Ireland as a youth worker at Ballynafeigh Community House as well as an assistant pastor at Cooke Centenary Presbyterian Church. Upon returning to the States, she worked for the PCUSA Peacemaking office traveling to presbyteries and churches talking about peacemaking in Northern Ireland.
In March 2001 Wendy became the Associate Pastor for Youth and Mission at First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN. While there she married Brian Shelby and in June of 2005 they left First Presbyterian for Wendy to become the solo pastor at Highland Presbyterian Church in Maryville, TN. It was during those years that her children Isaac and Rebecca were born.
Wendy enjoys looking at the intersections of faith and life. She is passionate about worship and sharing the good news of God's love for all people through service and mission. Most of her extra time is spent playing with her children and nurturing her relationship with her husband, but she does love to cook, especially to bake. She has fun walking with her two dogs, and she loves to read and to travel.
Wendy is excited to be the Pastor of Bethel and looks forward to building relationships at the church and in the community.
Will was born in Huntsville, Alabama. His father was originally from India, which is why his last name is so unusual. He grew up in the church and remained active in the church through youth group and the youth choir. While a member of these groups, he went on several mission trips and choir tour. During his senior year in high school, he felt called into full time ministry, specifically youth ministry.
He attended Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee and majored in Church Vocations with an emphasis in Church Camps and Recreation and Church School Education and graduated in 2003. Two of his former professors attend this church today; Dr. and Mrs. Phil Walsh.
He has served in various roles in youth and young adult ministry over the past 12 years as an intern, volunteer, Sunday School teacher, and youth director at churches in Alabama and Tennessee. In his spare time, you can find Will reading or watching movies (when it is cold) and on the lake and outdoors (when it is warm).
He married an amazing woman, the former Amanda Myers on October 22, 2010. Amanda serves as one of the youth pastors at Cokesbury UMC in Knoxville. Will is very excited to be serving the warm and vibrant congregations of Bethel Presbyterian and Kingston UMC. His office is located in the office suite at Bethel.
