Heifer Project International (HPI) is a hunger relief non-profit organization that is based on the parable:

"If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day;
 if you teach him to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime."

HPI provides environmental-specific animals (ranging from camels in the desert to llamas in the mountains) to countries that are in a constant state of hunger. These animals provide the six M's – meat, milk, money, manure, muscle and motivation. In this fashion, HPI offers lasting solutions to endemic hunger.
