Throughout Bethels history we have encouraged the use of our buildings by others. In addition to Bethel members, other individuals, other church groups, and community-wide organizations have used our buildings some for many years. When our educational building was completed in the spring of 1965, a portion of the basement was left unfinished and designated as the scout room. has been meeting at Bethel since 1965. They meet at Bethel every Monday night unless there is a camp-out or a holiday. Currently there are more than forty boys in the troop. Roger Richmond, a Bethel member, is the Scoutmaster. Over the years, many Bethel adults and youth have been a part of Troop 101.
Once every quarter at a Court of Honor, rank and merit advances are recognized and awarded and families celebrate with a covered dish dinner. In September, 2001 a special Court of Honor was held to recognize Jesse Richmond, one of Bethels own, for having achieved the scouting rank of Eagle. Less than one percent of all scouts achieve this rank.
is a weekly community-wide program for children, ages three and four, from low income families. The children learn group sociaization, fine-and-growth motor skills, language, counting, color, etc. There is family focus with parents and grandparents being urged to attend. Head Start also uses other facilities in our community, but they have been having a program at Bethel for over ten years. Since Head Start is family focused, parents and grandparents are urged to attend.
Body Recall is a physical fitness program, developed and designed by Dorothy Chrisman of Berea College, Berea, Kentucky, for people over 50. This program has been offered at Bethel since 1991.
