Bethel provides both volunteers and direct financial assistance to Habitat.
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) was organized to serve in Christs name, to follow the examples of caring and compassion set in our Scripture. The vision of Habitats founder, Mihiard Fuller, is for a ministry where people form all walks of life come together to build houses with Gods people in need. It is only natural that the local church - Christs Body in the community - should be the primary partner in Habitats work. Every house we build together is a sermon manifesting the love of Christ! We are unabashedly Christian. Habitat exists to serve Jesus Christ! Headquartred in Americus, Georgia, HFHI now has over 1300 U.S. affiliates operating in all 50 States and the District of Columbia.
Roane County Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of HFHI. Like our parent organization, we are a non-profit organization, we are a non-profit, ecumenical Christian Housing Ministry. We work in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. When the houses are completed, they are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Partner families must invest hundreds of hours of their own labor-sweat equity-into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund so that our local affiliate can build more houses.
The Roane County affiliate was founded in 1991 to meet the needs of Roane County residents who are not able to qualify for conventional house financing, and who are willing to partner with Habitat to achieve the goal of home ownership.
Bethel gives financial support to Roane County Habitat (a portion of the proceeds from sales of the Bethel CookBook go to support Habitat) and Bethel members serve as volunteer home builders. Info-Line for Building Program: 376-5770
